Definition Flash Scanner
The Department of Radiology at VCU Medical Center will be taking a large step to further improve the care and safety of the patients that it services. The purchase of a Siemens Definition Flash CT scanner (PDF) is yet another demonstration of the committment that VCU Medical Center has to stay on the cutting edge of technology and provide the latest advances in medical imaging to its patients and the community it services.
The new Definition Flash scanner will be the first second-generation, dual source CT scanner in the state of Virginia. What does this mean for the patient?
- Flash Speed - The Definition Flash is the fastest scanner in the world. It can scan a heart in 250 milliseconds. In just over half a second, it can scan an entire chest. And, in fewer than five seconds, it can scan the whole body.
- Lowest Dose of Ionizing Radiation - This latest technology reduces radiation exposure by as much as 90 percent. The safety and well being of our patients is our primary concern at VCU Medical Center and this scanner will provide for the lowest dose possible of ionizing radiation, thereby greatly reducing the associated risks.
- Superb Images - With its remarkable speed, the Definition Flash scanner obtains detailed images of enhanced clarity. For the patient, this means that your physician will have even more confidence in diagnosing and treating your condition and providing you world class care.
